Esha Deol talks about family’s advice for her professional journey

On being asked about the advice her family gave her when she began her acting career – as both her mom, Hema Malini and dad, Dharmendra are actors, Esha Deol said “Advice came gradually to me. When you face issues you go to your parents, and that’s when you get advice. My parents never gave me unwanted advice. I would go to them with issues and problems. That’s when I remember that the comparison had started, with my mom.”

She added, “Especially because of being a woman, my first movie was compared. and my mom did some 200-plus films. So, I had a chat with her, and she said very clearly if you stay in the industry, you will come across this. You cannot let it affect you if you stay in this profession. Because you are passionate about what you do, then you cannot let this affect your work. If you can manage to not let this affect you then continue it.”

Esha Deol on magazine culture

Talking about magazine culture and representation, the Dhoom actress says, “There were a couple of times there were rumours, mostly link-ups with my co-stars. That was a constant. And there were comparisons with my parents. There was a phase, where I was called the wild child. And yes these have been very much constant throughout my career.”

She also spoke about wearing bikinis in Bollywood films. She said, “The trend started after Dhoom, when actresses would flaunt their beautiful curves. I feel if you know it is shot nice, aesthetically pleasing then it cannot go wrong.”

Esha Deol on the difference between being vulgar and being gracious

When asked about the difference between looking vulgar and gracious, Esha Deol said, “Yes it is a very thin line. And it’s a dangerous thin line.
